My Students

Our school is located in a remote area of Alaska that is full of rolling hills, rivers, and lakes, and an abundance of wildlife including birds, moose, caribou, bears, and more. The many families of our students live on the abundance of wildlife for their survival. Our town of Tok is the first settlement that travelers reach when traveling the Alcan Highway after leaving Canada.

My students live in a small community with about 1000 people living year-round within the immediate area.

We experience some of the coldest weather in the state. Students love to be outside in the snow, sledding, mushing dogs, or just going for walks. Students have a lot of time to spend indoors as well, reading and playing games with family and friends. Families teach their children how to safely enjoy the outdoors all year long. So many students love to read on the cold, winter nights.

My Project

My student have started seeds a few days ago. As the seeds grow, we will be running some experiments. The plans are to have some well established plants to be able to use for garden starts at home.

We need to have some larger pots to be able to transfer our growing seedlings as well as some other items for springtime experiments.

We need a classroom set of thermometers to complete some weather related experiments as the weather gets warmer. We will also be using some of our seedlings as Mother's Day gifts for their moms. We hope to be able to design our own planters.
