My Project

Our students are ambitious, driven, hard-working, and sometimes overwhelmed! As dually-enrolled high school and community college students, they sometimes forget about the importance of balance and self-care. I sponsor multiple clubs, but two, in particular, are focused on community engagement, self-care, and service. "Random Acts of Kindness" club focuses on performing service and acts of kindness to uplift and encourage our students. "Strings & Things" is a craft club that was designed to help students learn how to knit, crochet, and create, providing a healthy and relaxing hobby.

These clubs help students make new friends, relax, and de-stress from their busy academic days!

They also love the personal interaction and have made comments about how much more fulfilling it is to learn, create, and serve together compared to endlessly scrolling through social media, which was a common practice to pass the time between classes. Now they look for opportunities to create a card, pass a note, or crochet a small project to brighten someone else's day.

I'm seeing more smiles and hearing more laughter as they develop empathy, socialize, and strengthen friendships. This carries over into their general well-being, productivity, and overall mental health. Please help me give my students a supply of craft materials and yarn so that they can continue to build camaraderie, relieve stress, and celebrate being happy, healthy, compassionate people who strive to uplift others through acts of kindness.
