Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Everyone knows that it is better to give than receive! My young second graders have had limited experience with being givers, as they are often receivers. This is a great age to learn and experience that feeling of giving! With these requested snacks, treats, and materials, my students will be able to share and spread kindness and appreciation to others around them outside our own classroom community!

Students will help create these Kindness treat bags and make cards to express gratitude for our yard supervisors, custodians, office support, and others.

These are important people - yet often go unappreciated and unnoticed, that help make our community safer and better. The students will write thank you notes, draw pictures, and deliver these gifts to our unsung heroes that make our school a special place to be! Kindness is contagious! This spark will spread from our yard supervisors/custodial staff to the other classroom students; this warmth will be passed from security personnel to visitors; and of course the kindness will be widened from our office front staff to the parents and local community. Through this exercise, I'm hoping my students will develop hearts of appreciation, realize that they can make a difference, and learn that happiness comes by giving to others too.

Being able to show kindness and giving, especially with the upcoming holiday season, is so important! Last year, my class did something similar last year, and it was amazing to see the tears in the eyes of grown adults. These sweet men and women rarely get cards written by student hands, and they were touched - which made the students happier too. I want my current students to learn that they have the power to offer little gestures, that make a big difference in brightening up someone else's day.
