My students are a very special group of young learners. They are motivated and eager to learn.
They are a diverse class because our school is in a very diverse part of the Bay Area, known as the "Heart of the Bay." I have students from various ethnic backgrounds and economic backgrounds.
Our school is mostly comprised of immigrant and working-class families.
Most importantly though, our students and their families value the importance of community and education. They all have high potential to succeed.
For years my students and former students have been asking me to start a ukulele club at our school, and now is the time to do it! There are so many negative things going on in the world and in the lives of my students, so playing the ukulele would help spread some aloha and cheer in our small school. I would like to invite ukulele players of all skills to join the club, and many students don’t have access to a ukulele. If I have at least a dozen ukuleles stored in my classroom, I can serve at least 24 students in my club if they share the instruments!
