This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
During these unprecedented times, our 2nd grade students have been faced with many inequitable learning situations--not having access to technology, little to no reliable internet support, learning to navigate unfamiliar learning platforms, and not having resources (like books or manipulatives) to support learning new academic content.
Due to the inequities of distance learning, our students furthest from educational justice our the most impacted.
Each week, we host a Zoom Lunch Social Hour, givings students the opportunity to engage in conversations with their peers around current events, games, social and emotional learning, etc. Based off student need, students are given the opportunity to engage in recorded learning lessons, office hours for one on one support and small group instruction via zoom.
We recognize that this way of teaching is not equitable, so we're asking for help to provide resources and materials that will enhance learning through culturally responsive lens.
My Project
By donating to our project, you're helping us create learning care packages for students in the fall if we're still participating in distance learning. If we're in the classroom for fall learning, you'll be supporting us with providing students with personal school supplies to help decrease the spread of germs.
With these materials, you'll be helping us provide students access to school supplies, including our students most impacted financially by COVID-19.
Teaching at a high needs school, our families and students are making difficult decisions that involve prioritizing home needs versus school needs. Your support will help alleviate the need to buy school supplies.
