Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first year science lab Teacher (after teaching first and second grade for 12 years) I am so looking forward to this new challenge and want to make sure that I give the students every opportunity to succeed in Science.

98% of the students come from economically disadvantaged families. They do not have the opportunity to even go to museums or explore nature. This year I took the 5th graders to an environmentally rich state park where they were able to observe pond life. It amazed me that 80% of the students had never been to a pond / river / or ocean habitat or even the zoo. Eventually I would love to make an outdoor classroom for he students; but until then .. we plan to take it one step at a time.

By having these ecosystems in the Lab... students will be able to see daily changes rather than just going on one field trip one time.

I know this doesn't seem like much; But it's a start. I truly believe we are molding our future leaders. They should be offered every opportunity to succeed - because we are all "Life Long Learners"
