My Project

My older students will create Spirit Sticks in a few weeks and need bamboo, paint pens, feathers and yarn.

They will paint designs, wrap their sticks, and add feathers and beads.

We will be learning about native crafts, their culture, and traditions. Throughout history, Native American shamans, or medicine men, carried a spirit stick to use in their quest to evoke powerful, healing spirits. Also known as a medicine stick, or prayer stick, depictions of this religious implement and its associated rituals vary among Indian tribes.

Spirit sticks are a traditional Native American craft, and they represent the Native American's culture of showing deep respect and reverence for nature. Spirit sticks have been hung in homes, carried around and used in ceremonies for generations.

We are super excited to make these so any consideration would help.
