My Project

In this digital era that we now live in, it is so important to get printed books into the hands of students. My classroom is a warm and inviting place that my students enjoy being in. They love the comfort provided by our classroom pets and mood lighting (turning off the overhead lights and using lamps and fairy lights). During read aloud time, my students will huddle around me on the carpet or sitting on blankets, to listen to the story. This is one of their favorite things to do. They beg for it on the days that we don't do it. These books have been chosen based on student interest, as well as, my fourth grade standards. The girls in the stories have to make a hard decision for a worthy cause. It shows my students that they are important even as children.

The American Revolution is vital for students to learn about as it is the foundation of American freedom.

A classroom set of these books will allow each child to hold and read their own copy of the book. They will be able to answer comprehension questions by looking back through the books and participate in academic discussions with their peers. My students are so grateful and appreciative of anything that can be provided to them, as we live in a very small rural area that does not have access to much. Without these books, many of them will only ever get cut and dry history lessons from a history book.
