Spheros STEM and Programming Science

My students need a curriculum into the modern STEM classroom.This classroom set of Speros fuses technology with robotics will teach and inspire tomorrow's inventors.

My Students

My students are the future! People are often saying that, as educators, we are currently preparing students for jobs that do not exist. As a teacher, this means that everyday I am preparing my students for success -- and for technologies, programs and companies that are yet to be created.

We are a rural, low income school in Oklahoma with the vision of integrating more technological opportunities for our teachers and students.

As the district technology coach next year, I have the amazing opportunity to bring insight and new ideas into every classroom in the district. This purchase allows me to design professional development for every educator in our district using these classroom robots. With the training of all staff, every student in our district would have the opportunity to work with and benefit from this modern, progressive grant. I am motivated daily to not only create a true STEM classroom; but rather, an entire district of innovation, critical thinking, trial and error, and creative, outside-the-box thinking. A classroom set of Speros will teach students and district teachers the basic concepts of science, programming, robotics, engineering and math in a fun way.

My Project

Sphero is an interactive and engaging robot that brings programming off the computer for the students and lets them touch it with their own hands in real life. Students will have access to ten different programming environments, and apps like MacroLab. Kids as young as eight can learn how to program and they will be able to access the robots through their own smart phones or the classroom iPad. Imagine an environment where students create race-courses and then use programming and coding design to drive circles around your friends turning the classroom into a video game with augmented reality apps, and upgrade the classroom with multiplayer fun.

My project will impact all 100 district teachers, not to mention the 1200 students who will be given access to the coding/programming technologies.

Students and teachers will learn how to code on the computer and then watch their programming in real life through the motions, sensors, and lights of the Spheros robots. This grant allows my district to experience a progressive STEM resource that teaches advanced skills while preparing their minds to use high order, problem solving skills daily.
