My Students
Houston is a small school located in Northeast, DC. Our students come from a range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Our scholars enjoy learning but face many challenges in their day to day life outside of school. Our school is Title One.
Our students' lack of access to technology limits their ability to make significant gains.
The teachers and staff at Houston are extremely committed to the students and work hard to mitigate the traumas that children experience outside of school. However, there is limited funding for extras and staff fund raise or contribute to stretch our school budget.
My Project
Having Sphero robots as part of our library program, enables our students to actually program and utilize their computational thinking ability in a real time setting. This is what they need in order to be successful in school and in life. It also provides a bridge between the library and the classroom. Our scholars suffer from lack of equity with other schools in the district. The addition of Spheroes to our library program helps level the playing field for our students.
Sphero+ robots will enable our students to thrive and develop an exceptional skill base that will carry them throughout their school careers.
