Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a STEAM/Technology teacher to 750 students ranging from kindergarten to 5th grade. They are an amazing group of diverse students; all of whom have their own unique qualities, talents, and strengths.
We are a Title I Elementary school with a STEAM room that focuses on science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.
For many of our students, their only exposure to modern technology is at school. I am seeking to help our students think like an engineer to solve problems using strategies, develop creativity, confidence, design thinking and teamwork by providing hands-on activities in Science Technology Engineering Art and Mathematics (STEAM). Many of our students are visual and kinesthetic learners, by having opportunities to work with their hands and visualize concepts helps them to better grasp the things that they are learning in their classrooms.
My Project
I have always been passionate about STEM and the positives it brings ALL my students. STEM activities are challenging, engaging and set the students up for success in all academic areas. The problem I have always run into with incorporating STEM is the financial cost.
I love that each week in STEAM Lab we get to have STEM and coding time and I am ready to bring more materials into the Lab.
I am asking for 2 Sphero BOLT Robots and 1 Sphero RVR vehicle. The requested Spheros will be used by all students for coding, designing, and solving STEM challenges. Spheros are great because they teach all students that coding is important. It is a fun way to include necessary skills such as basic programming. Spheros will relate to those games they love to play and to their everyday lives. Spheros will get ALL students engaged and they will thrive on learning how to program while learning how to code.
