Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is my first year teaching speech at two different schools in the Port Arthur ISD. I have about 80 students that I will see per week. My students may vary in grade and age but they are all already precious to me. I cannot wait to help my children succeed and reach their goals! These children have been through so much this past year because of devastating hurricane Harvey, and I’m ready to be a shining light for them!
My Project
If we are lucky enough to receive funding for this project, my students will be able to enjoy engaging board games and playdoh activities. These games are very important for a successful speech session. I am able to keep the students attention, all while the child is having fun, not even realizing that they are working on their conversational and socialization skills.
There is an importance of play in the development of language skills.
"Play has been called "the work of children" because it is through play that children learn how to interact in their environment, discover their interest, and acquire cognitive, motor, speech, language, and social-emotional skills" (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2007).
