Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a new speech-language pathologist (SLP) working for a school district in Richmond, CA. I wanted to be an SLP because I wanted to help children who have difficulties communicating. Communication is one of the most basic things that we, as human beings, need in order to connect with each other and with the world. I currently serve students in a Title 1 school where funds are limited - meaning most of the time, I would have to shell out my own money to buy and/or make materials.
Majority of the students that I serve come from bilingual homes who are curious, interactive, and enthusiastic about their education.
I have a number of students who are still struggling to write, understanding vocabulary, and a few students who exhibit stuttering. My students will greatly benefit from your donations as the materials that I will be able to purchase would help increase their ability to participate not just in speech therapy, but also in their class.

My Project
The materials I am hoping to receive will help my students become more engaged in lessons while improving their communication skills, which hopefully generalizes into their respective classrooms. Most of the students I work with are already disadvantaged, and being in a Title 1 school adds even more to the disadvantage.
The items I need (Writing Super Sentences, Sequence and Write Story Tiles, Mystery Box, Building Fluency Decks, Tricky Words and Phrases Teaching Card and Touch and Match Guessing Game) will tremendously help the population I serve.
These materials will help my students increase their learning experience beyond the speech room. I hope it will leave a lasting impression that will help generalize into the classroom and into their homes. Whatever help and donations we get will surely come a loooong way!
