This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in a moderate to severe Special Day Classroom with 15 amazing students with various disabilities and health issues including Autism, Orthopedic Impairment, Visually Impaired, Intellectual Disabilities and more.

Home Learning is a new experience for us all.

Students will special needs are struggling now more than ever, especially since their routine was abruptly changed.

Although I have developed new lessons and curriculum to be used online, not all of my students have access or interest in completing these tasks. Learning on the computer is not the way they have been learning all year. These tools would provide each student with an opportunity to "keep learning" using tools they frequently use at school.

My Project

These materials will help home learning for my students not only be accessible but academically appropriate and fun! Most of our students require accommodations to access grade level curriculum- these accommodations may include calculators, using various tools to respond (bingo/pointing, white board to draw response), repetition (using plastic sleeve to practice skills over and over) and having workbooks at their academic levels. These tools will allow me to assign various lessons that do not always have to be completed on a computer. Learning all day on a computer is a new concept for students with special needs.
