My Students
Located in our nation's capital, my Title I school serves the needs of a diverse community of students and families, particularly English language learners. In my current classroom, at least six different languages are spoken among all of my students, each of them equally beautiful and complex.
At the beginning of my year, it is difficult for my students to speak with one another because of the obvious language barriers but as a family, we develop a sense of vulnerability and safety, and together we learn to make mistakes and trust one another.
Through this process, I see my students begin to develop friendships, despite their inability to fully communicate through words. This is one of the most humbling, profound experiences to witness, and it cannot fairly be described by the limitations of my own language.
I am proud to serve my students and will continue to work with my families to improve the well being of all people in fair, respectful ways.
My Project
My students love Science! They enjoy exploring and learning more about the world. Our new unit of study will focus on animal survival and adaptations. However, we currently lack a lot of hands-on materials that could make this unit more authentic and realistic.
I am requesting hands-on specimen centers that will provide realistic replicas of different animal parts like feathers, skulls, and shells.
These kits have replicas for different kinds of animals like mammals, sea life, insects, and reptiles. With colorful photos and magnifying glasses, my students will be able to inspect these replicas in order to learn more about different species of living things and how their bodies and features allow them to survive in their environments. These materials are important for the students so they can feel like they are scientists! I want them to be excited about learning and discovering new information. Please help my students to learn about animal survival and adaptations!
