This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students have many challenges in their lives, both on and off campus. They experience hardships, instability, and more. I strive to let my students know that when they are on this campus, they are safe, and are encouraged to rise against the challenges in their lives- whether they are in the classroom or not. I have seen students begin to rise to these challenges, and I am learning more and more about their strengths and assets every day!

As I have been learning more about students' strengths, I have been learning more about their needs as well and how to best support them.

The use of an iPad will allow me to give more options to my students, not only in my own instruction but in their participation and learning as well. My classroom is co-taught, meaning my amazing co-teacher and I work together to provide each student with their individual needs for learning. In our 9th grade English class, we serve both general education students as well as students who receive accommodations based on 504 plans, IEPs, and other specialized plans. The generous funding of this project will allow us to utilize the iPad to provide more options in student learning, and will allow us to further expand on the Universal Design for Learning strategies that we have been implementing. Teachers will be able to present information in new, interesting, or individualized ways, and students will be able to show off what they've learned by creating presentations, videos, comics/art projects, and more.
