My students live in a low-income area. We are a Title I school and most students receive a free or reduced-price lunch. They are always eager to learn and although they may not have all the bells and whistles like other students their age, they have an awesome attendance record.
Most of my students are learning English and/or Spanish as their second language and it's incredible how rapidly they are learning the new language.
Even though my students face daily challenges, they are always smiling and ready to learn!
Many of my students have difficulty remaining focused and attentive for long periods of time causing learning to be challenging for them. When things get tough and hard, my kindergartners are typically more off task, which includes moving around. Having flexible seating such as wobble chair and stability ball with legs are proven to help with getting rid of some of those distractions! Students are more successful when they are allowed to move around as they are working.
By creating alternative flexible seating, it will allow my students to focus their attention better on their classwork while being able to move around and stay engaged in learning.
Allowing my students to make choices with their seating, as well as to allow movement while working, encourages student success and student growth in the classroom. Having this flexible seating options will allow my kindergartners to get their wiggles out and exercise using their gross motor exercises when they just need a break.
