This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am the Special Olympics coach at my high school. My athletes have physical and intellectual disabilities which makes participation in sports difficult without extra support. We offer bowling, basketball and track & field with various modifications to support students individual needs. Some students use a ramp for bowling, throw a tennis ball or softball instead of a shot put or compete in wheelchair races. They are always so proud of their accomplishments and love to bring their ribbons and medals to school to show their friends!

My Project

Donations for this project will support athletes on the Special Olympics team. This team is comprised of individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities. As teams are self-sufficient, it is required to reach out for donations or fundraise to get new equipment. Our basketball team has qualified for states the past 6 years and our track relay teams have placed 1st at states 2 years in a row. We are one of the most successful sports teams at our school and plan to keep promoting the mission of Special Olympics. The equipment your donation will fund will support state champions in Special Olympics to continue working towards their goal of gold!
