My Students
We have two life skills classrooms with 15 exceptional learners, who work very diligently to be social and communicate their wants and needs to all those who cross their paths. As we teach daily life skills, we would love for our students to learn to serve others and build their money skills along the way. These job skills are very important for my students.
Everyday when I come to work, I love seeing their smiling faces and hearing them say, "Good morning, Mrs. Burns, how are you?" (which took months of practice).
I would love to expand that communication by offering coffee to other teachers in the building and learning the job (money) skills needed to serve the coffee. My students have multiple disabilities ranging from moderate to severe. Their ability is sometimes portrayed lower due to their inability to effectively communicate. They all love to help others!
My Project
We are requesting a Keurig coffee maker, coffee cart, battery, and accessories which will offer my students the chance to serve others and build upon their communication skills and job skills. They will fulfill different duties each week to help complete the task of serving coffee or hot chocolate to the adults in the building.
Once the coffee cart takes full swing, we would like to eventually offer hot chocolate to different classes throughout the winter months.
We will practice our money skills to charge a small fee to teachers to cover the cost of the coffee. At the end of the year, any remaining proceeds will be donated back to the life skills classroom. I am very excited about this project! Please help me make this happen!
