For this project, I am requesting an Amazon Echo (2nd generation), remote control, and warranty to provide my students with an informational tool that they will be able to use beyond the classroom on their handheld devices. My students will be able to practice their speech to make requests for information based on their interests, ask for information about basic information, including the day of the week, the weather, etc. When reading a story or learning a new topic, I can only imagine the possibilities and how much more can be accessed with the push of a button. I will use this tool daily. It will be used in the morning to say, "Good morning". It will then be used to request a specific song to start their day. Throughout the day, my students will often come to me with questions. I would like to teach them the "life skill" of finding information independently, however, they need a developmentally appropriate tool to do so. During morning meeting, they can ask about the date and the weather. During shared reading, when reading "How Do Dinosaurs Say 'I'm Mad'," one student may ask, "What do dinosaurs eat?" With an Amazon Echo, I can say, "Go ask Alexa." With the push of a button, my students will be able to add interest to the story and will feel proud of their ability to seek information independently.
