Mrs. Wellington from Hyde Park MA is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a laminator, laminator pouches, and a printer to produce their work and have their work as a keepsake. We also need dry erase boards to show our math strategies, and snacks to keep us from feeling hungry.

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."-Nelson Mandela This is one of my favorite quotes because our students are our leaders of tomorrow. By the end of the school year my students need to master the art of using coping strategies to express their emotions.
My students are students hungry for education.
Yes, they have emotional challenges but they are very smart. They work well with sensory items. The emotional/behavioral disabilities class at our school has previously been characterized by inconsistent staffing, low expectations, and low academic achievement. I believe with high expectations and appropriate supports, high achievement is guaranteed. So far my students have shown great potential to have high achievement both academically and behaviorally. With structures in place that have provided for their safety and encourage active learning, their test scores and academic engagement have soared while the behavioral outbursts that have previously characterized this class have been reduced. All of my students have disabilities. Many students come from low-income backgrounds, and many are English Language Learners. These precipitating factors make school more difficult for them.
My students will be using these resources in the classroom to further and enhance their education. They will be able to write, type and publish writing pieces such as personal narratives, biographies and research based analysis with the use of the printer and laminator. They will use the iPad to practice multiplication facts and improve on their literacy. My students will be able to use the easel to display their strategies. The whiteboards will be used for students to use during center work and group work. The rulers will be used for reading during state assessments. Students will eat the snacks during their snack time because they come from low-income families and sometimes food can be scarce at home. They will use the bean chairs as a way to deescalate themselves.
Students need to know that they are cared about, that their academic and social needs will be met, and that they are capable of high achievement.
The bean bags will provide comfort for the students to sit on to calm down their emotions. The laminator and printer will be used to publish and produce student writing pieces. The tablet will be used as a learning device for students who need electronics to succeed. The dry erase board will be used for students to show the class their work.
