My Project

After 30 years of teaching I know that special education students need more than worksheets to learn. By the time they are in 6th grade they are discouraged and have an internal dialogue that tells them they are bad at math. Over the years I found creative ways to motivate my students, including math games, dry erase boards, where mistakes magically go away, and large pieces of chart paper where students can get up and move and work together as groups to solve problems around the room.

I moved from an elementary to a middle school with my 6th graders this year and had to leave my materials behind at the elementary school.

I started all over in an empty classroom. My middle school students for years to come will benefit from the materials this project would provide.
