My Students

Help motivate students with special needs by providing them with technology opportunities that they wouldn't receive at home!

My students go to school at a Title 1 school in California.

Currently, our state budget crisis in education is not allowing our district to provide ANY allotted funds for new technology. My students receive extra support in language arts and math, in addition to their general education classroom. Their struggles in school cause them to be very frustrated and unmotivated when it comes to getting work done. Earlier this year, we received 2 Dell laptops. Since then, I have purchased academic computer games from my own money, and they get SO excited to earn incentive time to play on the computers! However, with a growing caseload of 21 students, 2 laptops has not been enough to motivate all my students.

My Project

With 4 added Dell laptops, my students will be able to ALL use computers at the same time for small group reading intervention instruction. Currently, they have to take turns with the 2 that we have. Students will also be able to create documents using a word processor to become familiar with a keyboard. Also, students can use the laptops as a positive classroom incentive for when they complete their work in order to meet their IEP goals.

My students come from low economic backgrounds and don't have the opportunities to experience the growing technology of today's society.

I have already seen a positive change and new motivation in my students with the 2 laptops we have received. I can't wait to see their faces when these new, additional laptops arrive!
