Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a third grade special education teacher, looking to provide a warm, inclusive, and productive space for learning. I work with students with learning disabilities that need visual support from the materials such as pop-its, sensory tools, visual overlays, and timers. I also serve students from a variety of backgrounds that benefit from positive reinforcement through rewards such as squishies and stickers. I need reading tools for my students with dyslexia.

In order to provide the learning environment that can support a wide variety of students with disabilities, I need to create a space that is organized and welcoming in order to be productive.

I can create materials for students using the laminator, create endless anchor charts with the markers, and provide plenty of materials for learning. I can control the mood and atmosphere of the room with use of the lamps and lights. The lights shown in my classroom have broken, and will be missed dearly if they cannot be replaced. It is difficult to hang anchor charts on the walls, and the ABCs shown have fallen off throughout the year, so I need better materials for hanging resources.

In the past, I used shared spaces where we were able to share materials and tools. This year, I was provided a space for my third grade students to call home outside of the general education classroom. In order to make the new space feel welcoming and inclusive, I need the tools and materials. My students are special in a variety of ways because each year my group is unique and exciting. I would like to start the school year on a strong foot, with all of the materials necessary.
