The class: My First Grade Special Day Class students have significant speech and language delays and recieve bi-weekly Speech Therapy from a licensed therapist. Two students also receive services for their visual and hearing impairments. My students include native speakers of Vietnamese, Cantonese, Tagalog and Spanish. All my students are from low-income families. The need: My students require age-appropriate, standardized and criterion-based instructional tools to ensure cognitive and linguistic achievement of their individual goals. I am requesting approved and recommended academic items from Lakeshore Learning. How the tools will be used: The specialized educational tools listed below will serve to scaffold English Language Development and first-grade academic goals. They will also serve as ways for students to develop self-directed intellectual inquiry. The items requested will be used for teacher-guided small group activities. The items listed all address California State Standards. They will enhance inquiry, phonemic awareness, calculation, reading fluency and writing creativity. Follow-up: My students will be observed closely and their progress in specific areas targeted by the items requested. CVC blending, fine motor skill development, fluency per minute, and calculation concepts will be reported and documented.
