Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 3-5 year olds with Autism and other special needs, including Speech and Language Impairment. My students' disabilities are moderate to severe and their learning is supported by the use of visual aids, adaptive materials, and sensory tools. We are a Title I school; 50% of my students are also English Language Learners, and 100% of them are also eligible for free/reduced price lunch, meaning they come from low-income homes.
My students are kind, curious, and bright children who love to learn.
My Project
My students need sensory tools to be able to concentrate, participate and actively learn in and out of the classroom. My students often have difficulty sitting, paying attention and completing tasks due to sensory needs and hyperactivity.
Sensory materials, stress balls, fidget balls and tubes, and sensory chewy tools, help make learning fun, stimulating and interesting for my young students with special needs.
The sensory chewy bricks and tubes provide a safe and clean alternative to biting peers and putting potentially dangerous materials in their mouths. These sensory tools and materials will be used throughout the school day during free play, circle time, sitting activities and table activities to help my students focus on learning, while reaming calm and self-regulated.
