Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are incredible. I have 24 motivated English Language Learners who are eager to learn. My students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds with limited resources available to them. We are a Title I, Performance Improvement School, with one hundred percent of our students on the free lunch program. Many parents work two jobs and are struggling to support their families.
Though their outside environment may not be conducive to learning, my students have an insatiable love of learning.
I know that if we provide them with the right support, resources, and opportunities, they can experience success.
My Project
As you know, every child has the ability to learn, but the way children learn and how much knowledge they can absorb can vary considerably. I have students who are mainstreamed into my classroom 4 days a week.
Several studies have suggested that including children with disabilities in mainstream classrooms improves academic achievement, self-esteem and social skills.
Sometimes they can be distracted so these fidget toys will help them stay focused. We can always use pencils but many students are not holding their pencils correctly. These pencil grips will help train their fingers to hold pencils correctly, keep the fingers steady, and strengthen fine motor skills.
The binders are necessary to keep their materials in order when they are mainstreamed for MELD (Mainstream English Language development). Last, the stickers will be used as a reward for a job well done. All students love stickers so positive reinforcement is always welcome!
