Special Education Looks to Books with Kindle

My students need two Kindle Fire tablets. Classroom libraries are limited! You can only fit so many books on a shelf. Tablets bring so much literary content into a classroom!

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine how wonderful it would be to have hundreds or thousands of free books at your fingertips! What wonders await for students to enjoy in virtual books! Help bring literature to our classroom through tablets! Expand learning and exposure to great literature for disabled and able bodied students alike.

Our students are a diverse, multicultural population of students from economically challenged backgrounds.

Our school is situated in a community of mixed income working families in New York City. We are a school in our fourth educational year. Technology for every student is a daily challenge we face. Our class is an integrated classroom with both Special Needs and General Education students. Many students face challenges educationally and overcome obstacles every day in various areas of life both academically and personally.

My Project

A classroom library is a limited literacy resource for students. We face the challenge of having funds to purchase library books as well as having space for the books we can purchase. Tablets help alleviate this problems. There are numerous free resources for e-books and online materials that do not require additional purchase.

Providing tablets for our classroom would be a wonderful way to increase the literacy options available for students without adding to our storage issues.

Classrooms are growing in size, but space is not meeting the growth. Children need the tools located in technology to meet the challenges faced in education. More books is good, but, tablets gives access to not 50 or 100 but 1000s of wonderful, engaging and diverse pieces of literature for students. The impact on student learning is enormous! A tablet would be an amazing gift for literacy!
