This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We're a Title I school in El Paso, Texas with high rates of mobility, poverty and 83% of students on free or reduced lunch. The thing that I love the most about my students is that they push me to reinvent the way I do things. I teach in an area where more than three-fourths of the students are at an economic disadvantage, but they don't let that define who they are. My students have diverse backgrounds and I love to get to know all of their stories and embrace the awesome kids that they are!
With help from the community, we are trying to secure some tutoring snacks for distribution around our campus, so that any student that is in need of some extra brain food can get it.
We are in a very large building and trying to take a lot of snacks to different rooms on campus can be very time consuming. With two rolling carts, our student volunteers can make short work of a big task!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
