Special Additions for Special Students

Help me give my students appropriate workspaces, and appropriate materials that will specifically target my special education students' needs. Help me help my students through a classroom printer which will insure confidentiality of their IEP paperwork.

My Project

What I love about my students is that they teach me everyday, because the student and I are a work in progress. Together, we work closely to plan how we can be successful in an inclusive classroom. Not only do I love working with my students, but I love working with their families too. Each case is different, so the approach to individualized instruction is carefully designed for each student according to their needs.

My principal ordered new tables for my classroom to start using next school year.

It is great that this is happening, but the money ran out before we could order appropriate seating for the tables. At this moment I have students sitting on stools and kitchen wingback chairs. They are not ideal for our activities that we do at the tables. If our classroom gets chosen, we will have adequate seating for our workspaces.

Since an IEP is tailored differently for each student, the materials needed to help that student meet his/her goal varies. Much of the time, we make our own materials, because it is more cost effective. We laminate our materials, so they can be used over and over. We currently have some special needs students coming in next year that will require a great amount of repeated review and drill. By using the laminating sheets, this task can be met.

In addition, the printer/copier will solve the current issues with maintaining confidentiality of student IEP paperwork. Currently, everybody including students occasionally use the same copier. The student IEP records are highly confidential. If we had a classroom printer/copier, we could keep that confidentiality with fidelity.
