Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My students are students who have difficulty with language and communication. They work hard in my room and are helpful to each other. They enjoy and require variety in their learning. I do have some students who are unable to verbally communicate and need to use a talking device to help them get their wants and needs met.

This year, I have a few new students who are using different device applications than in the past, and are working at different levels.

They need more materials to address learning the symbols to communicate. They also need materials that help them to then expand on that learned language through stories and questions. I have selected Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards with specific focus to select: digital core words to print stories, AAC core vocabulary animated stories, story comprehension for AAC users, and core vocabulary for home use that have been designed specifically for nonverbal learners. They all have picture supports for engagement and learning.

We will use the pictures and practice the location of symbols on their devices for immediate access and expand into using them for communication to request and answer questions.
