Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first grade students come to school with enthusiasm and curiosity to learn every day. Their age is marked with tremendous growth, lost teeth, great emotional highs and even some lows. What makes them special is they inspire me to become a better teacher and we challenge and encourage each other to do our best. They are not just my students, they are my children.
I have a diverse mix of students in my classroom.
I teach 19 first grade students, some who face learning challenges due to language, attention deficits, and special needs. They learn best when I provide opportunities to move. Movement helps them stay on task and focused throughout the long school day. They enjoy collaborating and being active learners.
My Project
I am constantly seeking out new and engaging ways to make learning fun in my classroom. A physical activity, like throwing a ball, will eliminate dead time and create active learning and active listening. Movement gets kids focused.
I want my lessons and classroom discussions to ignite a passion for learning.
I believe that the Qball is a novel way to do just that! Tossing the ball back and forth will motivate students to participate more in classroom discussions. The Qball will give those quiet talkers a chance to be heard by amplifying their voice comfortably. Children who are more reluctant to raise their hand will want to join in the fun! The Qball will also set ground rules about who has the Speaker Power! It will cut down on students blurting out during discussions to maximize time. All student voices will be heard which will empower everyone to learn!
