Speak Your Way to Better Communication and Literacy Skills
Help me give my students a Phoneme Set and Mouth Puppet to learn how to produce speech sounds and build phonemic awareness, which are foundational skills to speaking, reading and writing!
I work with a variety of students in my speech room from kindergarten through fifth grade! They are motivated to learn but many have challenges building foundational skills like phonemic awareness.
The Mouth Puppet is a fun and engaging tool that incorporates visual and tactile learning.
It can be used to help students see where their tongue needs to be placed in order to make the /s/ "snake" sound or to put their lips together to make the "popping" /p/ sound!
The Phoneme Set with built in cards and mirror allows speech students to compare realistic pictures of how the mouth should look when making different speech sounds.
Building phonemic awareness helps a student hear, imitate and manipulate speech sounds. This helps them learn that that sounds correspond to letters, letters form words, which together develop into language!
