I would like to get my kids SPARKED up in Physical Education class by improving the diversity and quality of my physical education activities. I recently attended a workshop that "sparked" my interest in the SPARK way of teaching. I would like to incorporate this method into my daily PE classes and need to purchase the curriculam for grades K-2 and 3-5. Some of the lessons that I would teach in my classroom are Workout Buddies, Heart Alert,and Straddleball. These activities encourage working in groups, cardiovascular endurance, and ball and striking skills. My students need activities that promote exercising in a new and exciting way. I want my students to realize from this program that exercising can be fun and not the same old run 5 laps, stretch, and roll out the balls. This program is shown to increase moderate to vigorous physical activity by 50% or more for students. With the current focus on the need for children to be physically active and develop healthy habits, this is an ideal program to jump start a lifetime of healthy living. I want my PE classes to have a positive, lifelong effect on my students and believe the SPARK approach would increase the benefits they gain from their PE experiences and take with them throughout their lives.
