Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My third grade students are as inquisitive as they come! They are a group of curious dual language (English/Spanish) students that love to read and engage in meaningful conversations They love to collaborate and learn something new from each other across many different topics.
For many of these students, our classroom is truly a haven that allows them to travel way beyond their impoverished surroundings simply by turning the pages of a book.
My third graders' thirst for knowledge is truly inspiring to witness. They look forward to their book clubs and independent reading time. Unfortunately, our access to high-interest books is extremely limited.
My Project
These chapter books will help my third graders develop comprehension skills, in addition to rich and meaningful discussions around these texts. They will also help develop and sustain reading stamina and academic vocabulary.
I want to be able to provide books that spark joy in my students.
I want them to fill my classroom with conversations that they never want to end, and books that they never want to put down!
Having opportunities for discussions will allow my students to hear their peers and share their thinking. These books will help them find their own voices and points of views. To quote Maya Angelou, "Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to infuse them with deeper meaning."
