Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember your favorite chapter books from elementary school? My experience with reading these books in school helped to spark my interest in reading and writing. I would like to help my students to do the same. I teach 25 bilingual fourth grade students in Providence who would love access to a variety of chapter books in both English and Spanish. They are inquisitive and enthusiastic learners and deserve a library that meets their needs.
A classroom library of chapter books in both languages would be an essential resource to my students in sparking creativity, fueling imagination, and reading about topics that interest them.
Giving students access to other worlds, characters, and story lines would enrich their fourth grade experience.
My Project
This book library will spark imagination by adding more contemporary and interesting books to our small and dated collection. These books are also available in languages that my bilingual students can access and come in a variety of topics that will interest these curious learners.
The books I have chosen have characters that many of my students will be able to empathize with due to similar experiences.
I want students to enjoy reading and begin a lifelong relationship with books, so adding titles that they are able to relate to and are interested in will be essential in order to begin that relationship.
