Our school is located in the heart of a suburban downtown. The campus includes a historical building that is a part of the charming urban landscape. Our student body is a very diverse population that enriches our campus environment with culture.
Half of the student population participates in the free or reduced lunch program due to financial needs.
We are extremely grateful for students to have the opportunity to come to class focused on learning rather than on how to get their next meal.
My students are in my class to learn how to speak and communicate in Spanish. My students are eager to learn the language and how to actually use it. By embracing a newer method of teaching foreign language, I am able to keep that initial excitement alive throughout the year. My students are eager to have more materials that will enhance their exposure to the Spanish language.
My Project
I need to build a library of easy Spanish readers for my Spanish 1 and 2 students. The language classroom is changing so that students can actually acquire the language rather than just memorizing for a test, then forever forgetting it. Reading is a huge piece of the new puzzle and giving students a variety of engaging, comprehensible stories is key. Pobre Ana and Patricia va a California are a couple titles with some really engaging stories.
Reading can open the doorway to language acquisition.
I'd like a couple class sets, then a variety of books to create a class library.
