Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are English Language Learners and need Spanish reading books to develop strong native language foundation.
I have 25 English Language Learners students in my class from Fort Bend County that were emotionally affected by Hurricane Harvey.
They are enthusiastic and eager to learn every day to do their best. They love to read to discover the unknown world but for most of my students, our classroom is their only opportunity to have reading experiences and become successful learners. For most of my students, after Hurricane Harvey, needs and wants are very limited.
My Project
My students need these Spanish books to read in class and at home. They lost their books at home due to Hurricane Harvey and parents do not have the resources to get new ones.
My kindergarten students will read these Spanish books in class and take every day 2 or 3 books home to read.
Sharing reading with the parents will make them create connections to the real world to become successful readers and appreciate the importance of literacy. Also, parents will get involved in their children education supporting them at home and establishing a better family and school relationship.
