My Project

This year, our school has many new students from Latin America. They are wonderful, kind kids who are blossoming in our school community. We have been so happy to welcome them in and get to know them. But we are also working hard to provide the academics they need.

With a much greater number of students who currently primarily speak Spanish, we need to be able to provide them with books to read and enjoy.

In the fifth grade, we have around 10 new Spanish-speaking students, with many more in the fourth grade, and we only have a small selection of physical books in Spanish.

We want them to be engaged in literacy and enjoying themselves when they read. These books such as, "Los Futbolísimos 3: El misterio del portero fantasma" and, "Cuando brillan las estrellas: Una novela gráfica necesaria" are fun, exciting, and often the same as their peers are reading in English.
