My Students

"Music is the electrical soil in which the spirit lives, thinks and invents." --Ludwig van Beethoven. The classroom isn't just a place to learn, it's a place to feel safe, comfortable and relaxed. Using music as a medium proves to be effective and beneficial. Music can change brain wave states.

I work in a Title 1, low income area.

Making the classroom a desirable place is key when reaching the type of students I teach. These students need to feel welcome and secure in their learning environment. Luxuries such as an iPod don't always exist for these students. I want to build a classroom where they feel that they are in a home away from home. This helps to build trust, therefore increasing learning. I want to provide more than just an education to my students, I want to provide a safe haven that they want to be in.

My Project

My students need a classroom iPod and iPod dock to utilize the benefits of music in the classroom. Brain research has shown that when mixing music and learning you increase memorization, retention of material and attention levels. Music can inspire learning and set the scene for an educational atmosphere. The various sounds of music can help to calm students down or energize them when needed. Music has no boundaries and can touch students regardless of their age or ability level. Music can be used to inspire, reflect, or relieve tension; the uses are limitless. By incorporating this simple touch to my classroom, I can add endless opportunities to capture the students' attention and keep them on task and engaged, which will increase understanding. A teacher needs any added tools that they can get their hands on to help increase achievement and success in their students.

We form a small community within our school and we all do what we can for the children in our care. By helping through a donation, you are becoming a part of our family and your generosity resonates within the students.
