My Project

Our open and welcoming classroom is an inviting space for families and students to share an abundance of knowledge while celebrating US! Together, we become educational partners in the learning that extends from the home to the classroom. First, a parent surprised us with Korean pancakes "Jeon" and shared the importance of the Lunar New Year. Next, a grandmother shared warm enchiladas wrapped in a banana leaf. You should have seen the expression on the children's faces when they unwrapped it. Then, came Matzo Ball Soup and a student's recipe for making it as the children compared it to traditional chicken and dumplings soup.

Sharing traditional customs and foods is how we as a people experience delectable homemade foods from other cultures.

Our Soul Food Feast will celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of Black people to the United States while sharing in the preparation of a traditional African American meal.

The baking powder, flour, and biscuit cutter will be for making homemade biscuits. The peaches and cinnamon sugar are for making individual peach tarts. Of course, the macaroni is for making macaroni and cheese. Integrating math and reading into these experiences are lifelong learner skills.

The biodegradable paper products and recyclable cans and aluminum are a school project implemented by one of my students. She noticed that there was recyclable material all over the school. She and her siblings took the initiative to do SOMETHING to help. Then she realized that EVERYONE in our school could do something to help recycle materials. With the help of adults, and some planning. We are NOW all making a difference! I kept her plan in mind creating my supply list.
