My Project

Every student deserves to feel comfortable, confident, and ready to learn. I am the librarian at a high school serving approximately 1,000 students with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. While many of our students have their basic needs met, others face challenges that can make it difficult to access everyday personal care items. Something as simple as needing deodorant, a toothbrush, a hair tie, or feminine hygiene products can become a source of stress and embarrassment during the school day. This project will create an SOS Personal Care Drawer in the library, stocked with essential items that students can access discreetly whenever the need arises.

**When students don't have to worry about their basic personal needs, they can focus on learning, building relationships, and participating fully in school life.** The goal of this project is to provide a safety net for students who need a little extra support while ensuring that every student has access to emergency hygiene and personal care items.

By placing these supplies in the library, we can offer a trusted, student-centered space where help is available without questions or judgment.

What makes our students special is their diversity. They come from many different socioeconomic backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences. Some have abundant resources at home, while others face significant financial challenges. Regardless of their circumstances, every student deserves to feel valued, respected, and prepared for the day ahead. This project is about preserving dignity, removing barriers, and making sure that all students have what they need to walk into class feeling confident and ready to succeed.
