SOS! Supplies Needed! Amazing Brainstorming for Writers With Diverse Needs

Help me give my students basic supplies such as whiteboard adhesive magnets, storage, and magnetic clips to brainstorm for their reading and writing group projects.

My Students

At our school 95% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our students live in a unique part of town which is isolated from resources, parks, and after school activities. Many of our parents use public transportation, which makes access to outside resources challenging for them, such as literacy opportunities.

The particular students who will benefit from this project all qualify for special education services and have mild to moderate disabilities.

My students are really hard workers who put 100% towards their learning every day, even though learning is really challenging for them. They are resilient and inspiring.

My Project

My students have worked so hard to improve their writing skills this year but are needing more supplies to make the brainstorming process more interactive and hands on. Since my students have mild to moderate disabilities they need unique, repetitive, engaging, and interactive ways to practice their learning to make progress in writing.

By using whiteboard adhesive magnets to brainstorm their ideas for their reading and writing projects my students are creating new brain connections that help them retain information that they struggle with.

They will be able to create interactive brainstorming maps with text evidence and their own ideas to collaboratively work together in groups to create their final product. Rather than using a lot of paper to go through the entire brainstorming process, they will be able to use reusable magnets to brainstorm on their standing whiteboards saving paper and copies.

The storage cabinets will be used to store all of the materials and projects in process. The magnetic clips will be used to display their final products to their group members to make any tweaks, changes, and to receive feedback. As a result, with this project students will be engaging in interactive hands-on learning, developing new brain connections, and collaboration with their peers.
