Give my urban students an equal opportunity to excel. I teach 9th grade English in a high-needs school. The school is unique from others in the city because it has a garden and nutrition program run by the students.

Most of my students do not consider preparing for college until they are upper classmen, if they even consider college an option. They need to start building their reading, writing, and test-taking skills in ninth grade to understand that every year of high school is equally important in the pursuit of higher education.

I need PSAT and SAT prep books for my students and myself. My students need to start learning the format of the PSAT and SAT in 9th grade so they are comfortable with it by the time they take it. My students need exposure to the vast vocabulary that can be daunting, and they need to be interested in learning it.

The resources that I need will help me better prepare my students to matriculate college campuses in the future. You will help my students take that first important step towards building their confidence in their intelligence and self-worth. You will help my students become college graduates.
