Help me give my students some hands-on tools to begin their phonics and reading journey. Science of Reading is all the rage and these manipulatives will help incorporate that into my classroom.

My Project

Students will use these hands-on materials as they develop phonemic awareness, learn phonics, and begin to read with fluency. What child doesn't love pop-its? These will help my students isolate sounds in words, by popping them for the correct sound. Whiteboards and letter magnets will be used everyday to write dictated words and sentences as they learn their letters and sounds. Textured letter cards provide a tacticle experience for students learning how to write correct letter formation.

The Science of Reading, along with these manipulatives, will help my students get a solid foundation in essential reading skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

The Science of Reading is in, balanced literacy is out. The Science of Reading is extensive research about how students learn to read and I will be incorporating that research into my Kindergarten classroom.
