This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a small, family oriented community with a diverse population of immigrants as well as California natives. There are no longer funds to support music instruction, so I solicit your support as I strive to create a vibrant music education for my students.

They love to sing, move to music, play instruments and learn historical background about musical genres.

In a world that is ever changing, school is a place where my students feel safe and they can express themselves freely. Music instruction will increase their listening skills while also developing their teamwork and cooperation with others. Please help support this arts program.

My Project

Music educators receive no funds for purchasing materials in my district. With the resources chosen in this project, I'll be able to prepare elementary students for instrumental music ensembles in secondary school. Currently, my students have an option to join the school choir, which meets separately from regular general music classes.

The funding of this project will allow me to do introductory units on the ukulele and the piano, which are the most highly requested instruments for private instruction.

In 2017, I was fortunate to have 7 piano keyboards funded, and I taught students basic songs on the instrument. This year, I'm requesting six additional keyboards to increase availability for my students. Along with the beginner pianos, I'm requesting 10 ukuleles, instructional books and materials for beginners, as well as additional strings to teach simple melodies this fall.

This donation would provide additional performance opportunities for students in the School Music Department, who perform three times a year for school wide concerts and at an end of the year talent program.
