Sometimes Standing is all we Need

My students need access to a platform when they are using the interactive smart board at the front of our classroom.

My Students

Our school is a K8, our middle school is small, 300 students total. We are primarily neighborhood students however many are bussed in from outer areas. Our district is home to a high percentage of ELL students and our school serves many of these students. We work with the Minority Achievement Office to offer programs of high rigor to students who might otherwise not have the opportunity.

In my classroom I use a hands-on approach to learning Algebra.

We use project based learning activities for harder to learn concepts such as polynomial functions and battleship through systems of equations. Our Algebra students rank top 5 in the district as well as our Geometry students.

My Project

We have been graciously outfitted with new Smartboard technology in our classrooms however in moving to this platform, our presentation computers were relocated to the back of the room. The issue that is caused is there is no platform with which to use the keyboard, mouse or hold your papers near the board any longer. Also for their presentations, my students can not stand and present at the same time.

Having this standing desk will allow for students and teachers to stand at the board with a wireless keyboard and mouse to use the interactive white board.

We are excited about the opportunities this new technology gives us in our classroom.
