My students are primarily 8th graders, with some high achieving 7th graders mixed in to my honors classes. When they transition from Middle School to High School they are expected to be prepared to move to a full digital platform. Our curriculum is currently offered digitally as are the resources we receive for curriculum presentation. Students use google docs to write essays and submit their work; however they must use their computers at home. Our school has several computer carts that contain laptops but we share them as a school, 9 grades worth. The cart is not always available and to create fluency students must engage with the content/material consistently. Applications such as Desmos are also available on a digital platform to help students visualize graphing, equations and translations. By adding laptops to my classroom the need for pencil and paper is lessened, they are able to receive work digitally. They also have the ability to practice all school year on a computer to help them prepare for the end of course exam, which is also taken via computer.
