Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have had the privilege of teaching an amazing group of students this year.
Our classroom is an active learning environment and a safe place for students to come and learn each day.
All of my students are accepted and welcomed by each other and love to help each other learn. My classroom is a mix of general education students and English language learners. Our students come from a variety of diverse economic backgrounds which means that the students come to us at many different academic levels.
My students love to learn and read. They have grown so much this year. We have also learned about kindness and they are practicing by showing acts of kindness around our building from helping the lunch staff clean up, to making cards for their bus drivers. It has been a joy to watch my class grow and mature socially and academically.
My Project
In our first grade classroom, we spend a lot of our day reading. When reading to my students, I am able to open doors and share life experiences with my students. Reading is both my students' and my favorite part of the day.
Having specific books designed to teach the skills first graders are learning, will greatly enhance my teaching each day.
When I introduce the writing unit, being able to read a book that is written in the specific form, will be a great teaching tool. With each reading unit, I focus on teaching a reading skill. This literature collection will give me treasured books for examples of each skill.
