Something I CAN Control - Ozobots for Every Learner

Help me give my students the chance to code robots! My students thrive on the open-ended problem solving that robotics provides.

My Project

My students begin their programming lessons with stones and mazes. We then move to computer programs that teach the python programming language through puzzles and games. These tasks are engaging and students enjoy this work. However, moving back to the physical world, by programming a robot using the same skills we mastered online, would be the perfect finale to the learning sequence for my class.

My students come from hard places where they have little control over their day-to-day lives.

By giving them control over a robot, they learn that they are able to make change and take control of things. This then boosts their agency and self-efficacy skills. This can be especially important as students learn to control their impulses and emotions.

Ozobots are user friendly and provide for multiple levels of engagement. Young students quickly learn how to program with the blocky interface and can create complex programs from early on. For students who have a difficult time with the blocks, Ozobots can also use visual cues such as colors and shapes, in order to follow a program. This makes them perfect for a multi-level classroom like mine.
